In the Ribagorzana town of Sopeira and with the outcrops of San Cugat as a backdrop, you will find this religious building from the early 12th century

The monastery of Santa María y San Pedro de Alaón had, in its day, a great influence on the cultural, political and religious life of the Ribagorza.

The high altar sits on a floor composed of differently coloured river stones, forming hexagonal roses and covering the crypt.

The Lombard Romanesque characterises this temple, still parish of the town. Benedictine monks lived here until the 19th century, where you can still see the remains of what was the cloister.
